Dr Alexandra Mavroeidi

Position : Sports Nutritionist

Qualifications :

  • BSc (Hons) Nutrition and Dietetics
  • SRD
  • MSc Sports Nutrition
  • PhD


Career Details :
  • Joined Grampian Institute of Sport as a Sports Dietitian in 2006.
  • Originally from Greece, trained in nutrition and dietetics at Surrey University
  • Became a state registered dietitian in 2000.
  • Moved to Aberdeen to undertake MSc in Sports Nutrition.
  • Stayed on at University of Aberdeen to carry out PhD, investigating the effect of habitual physical activity on womens bone health
  • Currently working as a lecturer in Human/Exercise Physiology at the University of Aberdeen
  • Active member of several professional societies including the British Dietetic Association, Nutrition Society, Dietitians In Sport and Exercise (DISEN), American College of Sports Medicine, and International Society for the Advancement of Kinanthropometry (ISAK).

Career Highlights :
  • Providing nutrition support tp a number of GIS athletes and seeing them progress to SIS level
  • Support SIS athletes based in Grampian
  • Profiling, (anthropometry) the University of Aberdeen Rowing Team for MSc project
  • Receiving external funding for supporting PhD work
  • Obtaining Doctor of Philosophy, 2006
  • Receiving the Young Investigators Award for presenting research findings at several National Osteoposis Society, (NOS) conferences
  • Becoming a lecturer
