Curling: (27/02/07) Brewster Pipped to Scottish Title

27th February 2007

GIS curler Tom Brewster reached the final of the Bruadar's Scottish Men's Curling Championship in Perth last week.  The competition was held in the Dewars Centre, Perth and ran from the 20th -25th February.

Brewster's team comfortably won the first group stage, topping the group with 7 wins out of  7.  They carried their good form into the next round, again topping his group with an impressive 7 wins out of 9.  Meanwhile another GIS athlete, David Edwards, was also participating in the event.  His team qualified from the initial group stages winning 5 of their 8 games but went out of the competition at the next group stage winning 4 of their 8 games.  The competition then proceeded into a knockout format and Brewster's team played their way into the final with a 6-2, semi-final victory over Muirhead's team.

The final was a close affair but skipper Brewster and his team eventually lost out  by one shot in an extra end.  Warwick Smith's team were crowned Scottish champions and will now go on to represent Scotland at the World Curling Championships, which will be held in Edmonton, Canada in April this year.
