Modern Pentathlon: (02/09/08) Prentice Takes Second Spot in Turkey
2nd September 2008
Following her success at the Junior World Championships where she helped Team GB to silver in the team event Freyja Prentice (Chapel of Garioch) finished in overall second at the Youth A Open Balkan Championships held in Turkey (31/08-02/09). Team GB was using the event, immediately followed by a trip to Sweden, as preparation for the Youth A World Championships to be held in Bulgaria later this month.
Freyja opened up with her shoot scoring 189 points and followed this up with a 2.22.70 swim to leave her in second place individually with Team GB in first. The following day she scored 1040 points in the fence to lift her to joint first but was pipped in the run to leave her in second place.
The consolation for losing out on individual gold was that she was able to help Team GB take the top spot in the team event.
With teams from Bulgaria, Russia, Egypt, Portugal, Greece, Turkey, Romania and Ukraine all taking part in the Balkan event there is a strong possibility of further success in the World Championships for Freyja on this kind of performance.
