30th March 2009
Freyja Prentice (Chapel of Garioch) made her debut for the GB Women's squad in the Modern Pentathlon World Cup held in Mexico City from 26-29 March. Having qualified for the event as the fourth ranked British female (while still only 18 years) Freyja teamed up with Mhairi Spence, Katy Burke and Beijing Olympian Katy Livingston.
All four athletes qualified for the final which took place on Sunday and Freyja opened her account with 18 wins out of her 35 fencing contests to leave her in 15th place after the opening discipline. She then went on to swim the 200m freestyle in 2:26.36 and added a further 1180 points in the riding arena.
Freyja then produced one of the best combined run/shoot performances of the final. Her time of 13:31.30 was sixth best on the day and lifted her to overall 10th, ahead of her fellow GB teammates and six other athletes who had competed in Beijing.
Freyja will now be returning to Bath where she is based to compete in the Bath International which begins on Thurdsay 2 April.
