Golf (29/04/10) McLean Glory at Glasgow Gailes

29th April 2010

Peterhead’s Philip McLean, a sportscotland institute of sport supported athlete, chalked up his second 72-hole SGU order of merit tournament victory when he won the prestigious Edward Trophy at Glasgow Gailes, 25th April.

The 23-year-old had rounds of 68, 72, 69 and 73 for a six-under-par total of 282 to win by a stroke from Brian Soutar (Leven Golfing Society).

McLean, who is targeting the European Tour school at the end of the season, said: “I think I won it with my driving.

“There’s so much heather here you have to hit the fairways from the tee to have a chance of scoring and I was able to do that and lead from start to finish.”

Philip, winner of the Leven Gold Medal last autumn, laid the foundation of for his victory with his driver, finding the rough just twice in 72 holes. At any level, this is a considerable feat and one of the main reasons is his hard work over the winter time.
