Sports Medicine

Sports Medicine plays a major role in illness and injury prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of all GIS athletes. The GIS Sports Medicine Network is co-ordinated by Dr. Judy Ross who is supported by a group of highly qualified and experienced professionals. The GIS Sports Medicine Network assists the athletes with a number of areas including Physiotherapy. The aim of the GIS Sports Medicine Network is to ensure that each athlete is in peak health to meet the demands of training and competition.

Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy within the GIS provides treatment for injured athletes with acute injuries and rehabilitation for long-term injuries. In addition, particular attention is given to the prevention of injury through an integrated team approach that sees each physiotherapist lead on a GIS sport.

Each physiotherapist links closely with the GIS Strength and Conditioning Network. This involves working alongside the coaches to deliver an integrated programme of strength and conditioning work that pays attention to the correct postural alignment and movement mechanics of the athletes.
