Strength and Conditioning
Strength and Conditioning provision within GIS is delivered as part of the overall Institute Strength and Conditioning Network. Each Institute Network programme sport has a lead strength and conditioning coach who manages all aspects of strength and conditioning for that sport. The role includes developing physical preparation programmes for each individual athlete in consultation with the programme coach, sports medicine, and sports science professionals.
The GIS Lead Strength and Conditioning Coach, Bryan Schooling , is responsible for ensuring that these programmes are delivered to each GIS athlete through sessions supervised by qualified Institute Strength and Conditioning Coaches.
While each GIS athlete trains at the facility that is most convenient for them the two main centres for delivery are at the Performance Gyms at the Kings Pavilion, University of Aberdeen, and RGU:Sport.
The GIS Strength and Conditioning Network meets monthly to update on athlete progress and to engage in practical updating sessions on specific areas within the various programmes. There are also very strong links with the GIS Sports Medicine Network and in particular with the physiotherapists in order to develop an integrated approach to delivery.
