The GIS Rugby programme works in co-operation with the SRU Academy Programme and the Caledonia Rugby Academy in particular. Any player from the Grampian area who is selected for the Caledonia Rugby Academy is automatically nominated for the GIS.
The GIS athletes work with the Caledonia Rugby Academy coach at venues within the Aberdeen area. The focus of the work is on the development of skills relative to each individual athlete’s playing position. Each athlete has an individualised annual plan that very clearly defines the level of playing commitment that is expected of them. This is done to ensure that the athletes can produce their best performance at their respective national team age group level and is supported by the other services given to the athletes through the GIS network.
